The Catholic Committee on Scouting for the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas welcomes you to this site where you will find information on the various programs and activities designed to help in the formation of Catholic youth involved in Scouting.
The Catholic Committee on Scouting recruits, trains, and certifies BSA Religious Emblem counselors and AHG Catholic Faith Award Mentors; approves and oversees local emblem programs (such as Light of Christ, Parvuli Dei, Ad Altare Dei, and Pope Pius XII, AHG Catholic Faith Awards); coordinates Boards of Review to confirm each Scout's faith growth and completed requirements; and processes applications through the Committee so emblems can be properly recorded and presented.
We also organize recognition events — including the Catholic Awards Mass — where Scouts are honored for their achievement alongside their families and parish communities.
The Catholic Committee on Scouting supports troops and units chartered by Catholic parishes by helping integrate faith formation into their program, connecting them with trained religious emblem counselors, and ensuring compliance with diocesan and Youth Protection standards.
We also reach out to Catholic Scouts registered in non-Catholic chartered units, making sure they have access to religious emblem programs, counselors, and parish resources so their faith journey isn't limited by their unit's charter organization.
We encourage all Scouts and Troops to participate in Scout Sunday at their parish and support leaders in planning their Scout Sunday celebrations.
Each year, the Catholic Committee on Scouting sponsors one or two Scouts to attend the St. George Trek, a Philmont Scout Ranch high-adventure trek combined with an immersive experience exploring faith alongside seminarians and religious. This opportunity gives Scouts who are discerning their vocation the chance to encounter the call more deeply, ask questions and grow in their relationship with Christ amid the physical challenge and beauty of Philmont's backcountry.
Historically, The committee has held an annual Christian Leadership retreat at Prairie Star Ranch and the Holy Smokes Scouting Family Campout.
Although these events were put on hold, these or other events could be re-discovered and brought back to our Catholic Scouting Community.
We hold an annual Kick off Mass in late August and new this year, we have scouts presenting the flags for the National Anthem at Pitching for Priests.
See our Events page for more details.
